    September 11—13

    10th Annual Skyline Drive Weekend

Join us for a weekend of stunning views and challenging climbs on the beautiful Skyline Drive.  We will use Big Meadows Campground (MP51) as a base camp, and you can cycle as little or as much as you like (see options below).  Cue sheets will be provided.  No SAG support!

Big Meadows is the premier campground on the Skyline Drive and features hot showers, visitor center, hiking trails, large camp store & café, and a nice restaurant in the lodge.  The campground may fill up, so making a reservation (Loop-A recommended) is a good idea.  Note that there is a $15 fee for cars on the Skyline Drive (valid for 7 days) and $8.00 for bicycles (covered by a car pass).  Dining options include eating at restaurants at Big Meadows (my choice) or cooking in camp.

    Scheduled rides will include:

Friday (20 miles):  Cycle from Big Meadows to Skyland and back.

Saturday (60 miles):   starting at 8 a.m., Cycle from Big Meadows to Luray and back (with a lunch stop in Luray, at a restaurant T.B.D. ~ Artisan's Grill is closed).  This is a very challenging ride with 7,000 feet of climbing.  There are other options for shorter rides.

Sunday (20 miles):  Cycle along the Skyline Drive after breakfast before packing up and heading home.
Cue Sheet and Elevation Profile  (for Saturday ride ... NOTE: Cue Sheet will be updated once lunch stop has been finalized)

    TBA Eastern Shore Getaway

    September 25-27, 2015

The 38th Annual Eastern Shore Getaway Weekend will take place September 25–27, 2015.  This is a weekend at Chincoteague Island of casual cycling on flat roads, dining in Island restaurants and social camaraderie.

Our accommodations will be at the Best Western Chincoteague at a group rate of $88.99.  They are holding 15 rooms for us on a first-come, first-served basis.  The rate will apply to reservations made on or before August 21 with a 72-hour cancellation.  Make your own reservations by calling 757-336-6557 and mention you are with TBA.  Then let us know you are coming so we can add you to our list.

The weekend’s schedule starts on Friday evening when groups form up to find dinner.  Early arrivals can bike or meet to play Miniature Golf.

Saturday morning, we drive to Snow Hill and bike to Berlin, MD (
think Julia Roberts in 'Runaway Bride') 40+ miles with cue sheets and SAG.  Saturday evening we bring goodies to share at our Wine and Cheese in the Motel Lobby.  Dinner afterward, or just go to the Creamery for home-made ice cream.

Sunday morning features the motel breakfast, followed by a bike tour of Assateague Island looking for the wild ponies and maybe a tour of the lighthouse.  Bus tours are also available into the restricted area at 10:00 a.m. for $12.00, where you are introduced to the many different groups of ponies.  Call 757-336-3696.

Another feature is the Sunrise Bike Ride each morning at 6:30 a.m. to see a spectacular sunrise over the ocean.

This weekend is a great social event of meeting, greeting, eating, and bicycling - and most importantly - the biking is at whatever your pace or level can handle.  Questions? – call Fran and Fred Adams at 757-467-2775, or email Bikalot@verizon.net.
